[ARCHIVED] Miner Avenue Complete Streets Project

Miner Ave ribbon cutting (002)

Exciting day for downtown Stockton! Today was the ribbon cutting for the Miner Avenue Complete Streets project, funded in part by Measure K. The San Joaquin Council of Governments administers the half-cent sales tax for transportation projects in San Joaquin County.

A crowd of several dozen attended the opening ceremony at the round-about at Miner Avenue and San Joaquin Street. The Spire, designed in 1965 by Glen Mortenson for Hunter Square, now rises from the round-about.

Stockton City Council members and SJCOG Board members Dan Wright, Sol Jobrack and Paul Canepa each spoke about the importance of the safety and aesthetic improvements to Miner Avenue between Center and Aurora streets. Stockton Vice Mayor Christina Fugazi, a former SJCOG Board member, also spoke.

The project reduced traffic lanes and added bike lanes, drought tolerant landscaping, benches, bike racks, trashcans, and other improvements. Stretching from Weber Point to the Robert J. Cabral Station, the project beautifies and revitalizes the neighborhood, while making the street safe and accessible to vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians and public transit.
