Smart Growth
During its lifetime, Measure K will provide about $65 million in funding to local jurisdictions in San Joaquin County for Smart Growth Incentives. This money can help jurisdictions pay for infrastructure enhancements, such as street calming, walk-able community projects, transit amenities, and alternative modes of transportation to help local agencies better integrate transportation and land use. These funds support infill development, neighborhood revitalization and downtown improvements.
Main Street Bike Path, Sidewalk, & Curb Infill Project – Escalon
New bike paths, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters will increase mobility in the heart of Escalon. The project
is bordered by the downtown commercial area and railroad tracks. There will be improvements to the
intersection of Main Street and 4th Street with cub, gutter and sidewalk work from 5th Street to St. John
Road. The Main Street and 4th Street intersection will be improved to increase ADA access and curb
bump outs added for traffic calming. The Main Street Park will have a new frontage sidewalk installed to
help with park access. The roadway will be restriped for bike lanes on both sides of Main Street from St.
John Road to 4th Street. The design for this project is nearing completion with a bid advertisement
scheduled for spring 2025 and construction in mid-summer 2025.
1st Street Reconstruction Project – Escalon
Measure K will help to replace Escalon’s 1st Street between McHenry Avenue and Union Pacific Rail
Road. A reconfigured roadway with wider sidewalks, landscaping and ADA compliant ramps will be
installed. ADA compliant paths will be upgraded with improved ramps and stamped concrete crosswalks.
