Like geographic areas, the impacts of COVID-19 are not distributed evenly among demographic groups in the County. Some groups are impacted more than others.
COVID-19 Deaths by Age
The chart below shows that COVID-19 mortality rates in San Joaquin County increase greatly as age increases. The 65+ years old group comprise over 63 percent of all COVID-19 deaths while comprising only 13.5 percent of the population. In contrast, people younger than 50 years old comprise less than eight percent of all deaths while comprising over 68 percent of the population.

COVID-19 Deaths by Race/Ethnicity
Some racial/ethnic groups in San Joaquin County comprise a higher percentage of COVID-19 deaths than their percentage representation in the County’s population. According to the chart below, Asians comprise 17.3 percent of all deaths in the County while comprising 14.9 percent of the population. Black/African-Americans comprise 9.2 percent of all deaths while comprising 6.6 percent of the population. Hispanic/Latino and White are San Joaquin County’s largest racial/ethnic groups and comprise a smaller percentage of deaths than their percentage representation in the County’s population (41.1 and 32.7 percent vs. 35.7 and 31.6 percent).
